Overview
Customer needs a single dashboard graph widget that shows open task counts grouped by a selected custom field (e.g., Location, Manufacturer). Today, the available “Split it up…” options differ by graph type, and neither configuration supports grouping by asset-level custom fields—forcing users to build multiple widgets (one per custom-field value).
Current Limitations
• Pie Graph “Split it up…” options are limited to predefined task/record fields (e.g., Location, Custom Tag, Task Type, Status, Priorities, Assigned To, Completed By)
• Bar Graph and Line Graph “Split it up…” options are time-based only (Year, Month, Week, Day)
• Asset-level custom fields (e.g., Manufacturer, Location if stored as a custom field on Asset) are not available as a split/grouping option in any of these graph widgets
• Achieving a breakdown by custom field requires creating multiple separate widgets filtered per dropdown value, which is not scalable
General Example
A user wants a bar chart of open tasks by Manufacturer (asset custom field). Since bar/line graphs can only split by time, they can’t produce “Manufacturer A: 10, Manufacturer B: 6…” in a single widget. Their only option is to create many separate widgets, each filtered to one manufacturer value, cluttering the dashboard and requiring maintenance when values change.
Requested Enhancements
- Pie Graph: add asset-level custom fields as “Split it up…” options
- Extend the existing Pie “Split it up…” list (currently predefined fields) to include asset-level custom fields (dropdown/text as applicable).
- Bar/Line Graph: add a non-time grouping mode
- Add a second grouping path such as “Group by” (Category) alongside the current time-based “Split it up…” options.
- Allow Group by = asset-level custom field (e.g., Manufacturer, Location) to generate one series with categories for each value.
- Dynamic value breakdown
- Auto-generate segments/bars/categories for each custom-field value, including an optional “Unassigned/Blank” bucket.
- Configuration & usability
- Widget setting to select which custom field to group by
- Optional sorting (highest-to-lowest, A–Z) and top-N with “Other” for long value lists

• Enables a single, clear visualization of open work distribution by customer-specific dimensions (custom fields)
• Reduces dashboard clutter and administrative overhead from managing many filtered widgets
