Overview
Introduce structured inventory actions to replace manual quantity adjustments, enabling consistent, auditable tracking of all inventory changes. This establishes a foundational workflow for accurate inventory management and reporting.
Current Limitations
• Inventory changes rely on manual quantity edits with optional notes
• No standardized way to differentiate usage, disposal, or sales
• Lack of consistent audit trail (who, when, why)
• Cannot reliably track usage outside of work orders
General Example
A technician removes 3 parts for an unplanned repair that was done by the Operator. They manually adjust quantity and optionally leave a note, resulting in inconsistent records and no reliable reporting on usage.
Requested Enhancements
- Introduce structured actions:
- Each action captures:
- Quantity
- User
- Timestamp
- Reason + notes
- Allow “Used” to support:
- General usage (note-based)
- Asset-linked usage (without work order)
- Replace or guide users away from manual quantity edits
- Add subtypes for “Remove”:
- Discarded
- Internal use
- Sold (linked to financial tracking)
Business Value
• Establishes a reliable inventory audit trail
• Improves reporting accuracy and accountability
• Reduces user error from manual adjustments
