Overview
Users managing large PM template lists need flexibility in how information is displayed while maintaining visual consistency. The current layout lacks adaptable density options and presents inconsistent row heights, making it harder to scan, compare, and efficiently navigate large datasets. Introducing configurable view modes alongside standardized row behavior would significantly improve usability and clarity.
Current Limitations
• Fixed layout does not adapt to different screen sizes or user preferences
• Row heights vary depending on content length, creating an uneven and inconsistent visual structure
• Inconsistent spacing makes it difficult to scan and compare rows efficiently
• No option to increase data density for high-volume workflows
• Excess whitespace reduces the number of visible PMs on screen
• All users are forced into a single layout regardless of workflow needs
General Example
A user reviewing hundreds of PM templates sees rows of varying heights due to longer names or schedules, breaking alignment across the list. Combined with fixed spacing, this limits how many items are visible and makes it harder to quickly scan or track position. A compact, standardized view would allow more items on screen while maintaining alignment.
Requested Enhancements
- Add selectable view modes for the PM list:
- Compact: Reduced row height, tighter spacing, minimal padding, high-density layout
- Standard: Current default layout
- Expanded: Increased spacing for readability and detailed review
- Standardize row height within each selected view mode to ensure consistent alignment
- Implement text truncation (ellipsis) for long fields (e.g., asset names, schedules)
- Provide tooltip or hover expansion to display full text when truncated
- Allow users to switch view modes dynamically without page reload
- Persist selected view preference per user (session or user settings)
- Ensure column alignment and readability remain consistent across all view modes
- Apply consistent view mode behavior across similar list views throughout the system
Business Value
• Improves scanability and comparison across PM templates
• Increases data density for high-volume users, reducing scrolling
• Creates a cleaner, more professional and consistent interface
• Reduces cognitive load caused by uneven row structures
• Accommodates different user preferences and workflows
• Aligns with modern UI standards for flexible, data-driven layouts
