Overview
Dropdown custom fields should enforce unique option values by default. The purpose of using a selection field is to standardize data and prevent users from entering the same information in multiple different ways. Allowing duplicate options undermines that purpose and creates unnecessary inconsistency.
Current Limitations
• Dropdown fields currently allow duplicate options to be created.
• The same value can appear more than once in a selection list.
• Duplicate entries can lead to inconsistent asset data, filtering, and reporting.
• Users may unknowingly select different duplicate entries that represent the same real-world value.
• Unlike free-form text fields, dropdowns are specifically intended to keep values controlled and standardized.
