Enhancement Request: Task Template Creation from Asset Templates with Linked Custom Field Data
Date of Original Submission via Chat: August 19, 2024
This enhancement proposes the addition of a feature that allows users to generate a Task Template (PM or WO) directly from an Asset or Asset Template within Limble CMMS. The goal is to streamline the creation of task templates by automatically linking all relevant custom asset fields, ensuring consistency and saving time during setup.
Proposed Functionality:
- Introduce a button labeled “Create a Task Template for this Asset” within the Asset/Template interface.
- Upon clicking, users can choose between creating a Preventive Maintenance (PM) or Work Order (WO) template.
- The system then generates a new task template that:
- Inherits all custom fields from the selected Asset/Template.
- Automatically links these fields to the asset the task will be associated with.
- Ensures that any task triggered from this template maintains a direct relationship with the originating asset and its data.
Use Case Example
- Asset Template: Facility Profile
- Action: User clicks “Create a Task Template for this Asset/Template”
- Selection: PM Template
- Result: A new PM template titled Complete Facility Profile is created, pre-populated with all custom fields from the Facility Profile asset template, and inherently linked to the asset (e.g., Asset #53126).
Benefits
- Efficiency: Reduces manual duplication of asset data into task templates.
- Accuracy: Ensures consistency between asset data and task instructions, as well as a simple repeatable (e.g. annual, in my use case) task to validate or update prior task field values.
- Scalability: Ideal for organizations managing large numbers of similar assets.
- Traceability: Maintains a clear link between tasks and the assets they pertain to, improving reporting and compliance.
- This feature was inspired by the need to reduce the time and effort required to build complex asset-task relationships, as demonstrated by the example asset and PM template provided.
