When users attempt to open a task from a notification email or in-app alert—and that task is no longer accessible—they receive a vague and non-committal message:
“This task may have been removed to a different location, deleted or...”
This leads to confusion and frustration, as users are left uncertain about the reason they can’t view the task.
Current Limitations
- The system uses unclear language ("may have been") instead of definitive messaging.
- Users aren't informed whether the issue is due to deletion, relocation, or permission restrictions.
- This occurs especially when opening a link from:
- A notification email
- An in-app notification
- A shared link the user doesn’t have access to
General Examples
- A task is deleted after a notification was sent—user clicks the link and sees a vague error.
- A task is moved to a restricted location—user doesn’t have access, but isn’t told that explicitly.
- A task link is shared externally, but the recipient lacks proper permissions—again, no clear feedback is provided.
Requested Enhancement
Replace the current vague message with a definitive and user-friendly one that explains why the task is inaccessible.
Suggested text:
“This task has been deleted, moved to a different location, or is in a location you do not have access to.”
Additional improvements:
- Context-Aware Messaging
Tailor the message based on the scenario—deleted vs. no-access vs. moved. - Access Guidance
If due to permissions, suggest next steps (e.g., “Request access” or “Contact your administrator”).
Business Value
- Clarity: Provides users with actionable and precise feedback.
- Efficiency: Reduces unnecessary support tickets or internal confusion.
- Trust: Builds confidence in the system's reliability and transparency.
- User Experience: Encourages smoother workflows and reduces friction in accessing task information.
